Paleo Kara!

Third in the series of Paleo-Heroines, based on the DC Comics Universe! I loved doing these, and have a ton more in my sketchbook--just waiting for the time to finish. This one started off as a rough sketch, then hand-inked with some of my favorite brushpens. Photoshop is my first stop, to bull the linework out in its own alpha channel. The figure was colored on an iPad Air 2, in Savage Interactive's excellent Procreate app; using the Nomad brush stylus and an Adonit JotDot Pro. Then back to Photoshop for cover composition--based on a typical 1980s cover layout. The photo background is a photo I took on Oahu. If only I could've expensed that trip...

Paleo Babs!

I'm having so much fun with these pieces!  The figure is hand-drawn in my trusty Moleskine, scanned and colored in Procreate for iPad, composited with a photo I took on the Big Island of Hawaii in Photoshop!  What an excuse to visit the nostalgia of old comic books with new illustrations!

Devil Dinosaur meets Tigra!

I just can't stop doing these homages to the comics of my childhood! Nothing made me happier than a shiny new comic on the spinner rack at the local newsstand! Especially if one of 'em had either Devil Dino or Tigra gracing the cover!

1,000,000 DC Diana

I've been obsessed with old comic book cover layouts lately.  Here's the first of a series of new layouts (with figures I've previously drawn), mashing up a couple of my favorite things--the beautiful, powerful heroines of the DC universe, and the 10-kinds-of-awesome film 1,000,000 BC!

Furkinis, coffee, and monkeys!

I have no idea why I combined the Furkini Atoll with a monkey sitting in a hot tub of coffee.  My brain happens sometimes...

Extreme perspective generally eludes me--but I'll occasionally get lucky...

Diana learns Hula from her little monkey buddy!  This one started off as a commission, but I liked doing it so much that I needed to finish it and get it up on Redbubble.  Check out all kinds of cool things you can get it printed on!

80s Titans

This is a revisit of a piece I did several years ago.  The figures needed a little work, and the composition was crying for help.  This is an homage to my favorite book of the 80s, and the fantastic work by George Perez and Romeo Tanghal.

Tiki Leia sticker

And this is what Leia looks like as a sticker!  You can get your own over at the FurkiniAtoll redbubble page--I already have a half-dozen on my notebooks!

Princess Leia's Adventures in Tikiland!

Remember that time after the destruction of the Death Star, when the Princess landed on Tiki-6 and danced the Batusi with the locals until the Sith showed up and drank all the rum?

New stuff on Redbubble!

Hey boys and girls, the Furkini Atoll now has its own shop on Redbubble!  Pillows, iPhone cases, tote bags, and more!  Heck, I can't stop buying 'em for myself!

1,000,000 Years BC Kara Zor-El

Furkini Kara Zor-El!  Done in Procreate on iPad, with both a Nomad brush and an Adonit JotDot.  I took the photo myself in Oahu--oh, how I miss Hawaii!

Just when you thought I'd forgotten all about this blog!  1,000,000 BC Batgirl, comin' at ya!  The background is a photo I shot on my trusty iPhone in Hawaii.  Babs is penciled/inked by hand, then colored/painted in Procreate on my other trusty iDevice--the iPad.  I started using the amazing Adonit JotDot--yes, they finally pried me away from my beloved Wacom...
